Specialty Adapters

The refrigeration industry uses a bewildering range of connectors including various threads, flares, "O" rings, compression and unusual combinations of all of the above.  Chances are good that anyone working on a system, particularly an older system, is going to be faced with the challenge of try to find an elegant way to attach one odd thread or flare to some other equally obscure (but invariably different)  thread, flare or "O" ring.  Those of you who have been through this before and don't want to do it again will love the useful  collection of adapters below.

"O" Ring to Flare

If you are fitting a new automotive style (engine driven) compressor to an older system you may well find that it uses an "O" ring type fitting rather than a flare. As an alternative to buying new hose assemblies, use these adapters to convert the O-ring fitting back to a flare.

1/4" Flare to Acme Charge Port Adapters

Prior to 1992, all small refrigeration and A/C charge ports were standardized to 1/4" male flares.  With the introduction in new refrigerants, some systems (particularly automotive R-134a) have switched to an "Acme" thread.  The fittings below give you the flexibility to interchange 1/4" flare and Acme charge cylinders, gauge sets and system charge ports.

Automotive to 1/4" Flare to Charge Port Adapters

Use these handy adapters to adapt standard 1/4" flare hoses and gauge sets to new "automotive style" R-134a compressor charge ports.  The 13mm "low-side" adapter is used on the suction side of the compressor while the 16mm "high-side" connects to the discharge side of the system.  Use adapter #024-0100 (above) to adapt the 1/4" hose set to the "Acme" threads that are used on the "automotive style" refrigerant cans.

Refrigerant Can Tap

These can taps attach to 12oz "automotive" style cans of refrigerant to provide a safe, controllable flow.  Select the right one to match your can.  #079-0211 is for R-12 cans designed for use with a clip-on valve.  The discharge port is 1/4" female flare.

#079-0210 is designed to screw directly on to  R-134a cans. The thread on the discharge port is standard automotive R-134a "Acme".  To adapt this port to 1/4" flare hoses, use adapter #024-0100 (above).
