Sanden (Sankyo)
|
Sanden (also known as Sankyo and
Sankyo/Sanden) is the most popular and commonly used swashplate type
compressor. Although Sanden makes literally hundreds of models, most
are variations (such as clutch size and port connections) of the older "505"
and "508" models. If you are looking to replace an existing
compressor, the switch from R-12 to R-134a has brought even
more confusion. Deciding which of the new models is interchangeable
with the older versions can be quite a task. Fortunately, they are
interchangeable. Use the descriptions and dimensional information
provided on this page to guide you in your selection.

Compatibility
Hose Connections & Access Valves New-style compressors - Sanden refers to their new models as "R-134a" compressors. Again, as with the "R-12" models, this does not refer to refrigerant compatibility but, rather, describes the porting configuration. R-134a models do not have charge ports (access valves) and use "O-ring" type suction and discharge connections for the hoses. For detailed information on hose connections and access porting options - see our Connector & Porting Guide for Sanden. |

Capacity
For a 5 cubic inch compressor, multiply the
power and capacity given below by .625. For a 7 cubic inch
compressor multiply by .875.

These compressors are the newest and most readily available Sanden models. They are American-made and come in 5 cubic inch and 8 cubic inch capacities. They use the new O-ring connectors and do not have built-in charge (access) ports. Their dimensions make them direct replacements for most old R-12 style "505" and "508" compressors. Sanden R-12 Compressors The R-12 model compressors have been around for many years in hundreds of different variations. The models offered below all have flare type hose connections (1/2" discharge and 5/8" suction) and 1/4" male flare charge (access) ports. These compressor are still being made. However, because of declining demand, Sanden has shifted the production to overseas and extended lead times dramatically. As a result, the exact type and number of R-12 style compressors available at any one time will vary. |

RParts carries a complete line of original Sanden replacement parts. Although Sanden has hundreds of different models, most are relatively minor variations on just a few sizes. As such, many parts are interchangeable. Interestingly, Sanden does not maintain a list of which parts are interchangeable with which models. The model compatibility given below is not all-inclusive. However, it is compatibility which we have tested and know to be accurate. |
