What happens to oil in new compressor when system is evacuated?

Postby Jon King » Sat Dec 12, 2009 5:00 pm

"Does oil stay in compressor when evacuating system? Retrofit new BD35 compressor in capillary tube system. (Also changed F/D.) Repaired leak. Now I'd like to evacuate the system & add 134a.Should I be adding POE after evacuating? If so, in what sequence & form? Thanks in advance."

"Jon,The oil stays in the compressor. The various gasses and water in the oil will gradually be pulled out of the oil and exit via the vacuum pump discharge. All non-condensible gasses will be pulled out of the evaporator and the rest of the system as well. Vacuum time increases with low temperatures, so it may be desirable to warm the system when evacuating the system if the ambient temperature is below 65?é?? F.No need to add more POE oil.Hope this helps,Forum Tech"
