LED interior box lighting

I want to install LED lighting on the inside of my reefer and freezer boxes. I'm considering a magnetic switch, with a normally closed (N.C.) format, so that the light only powers on when the hatch opens. Does anyone have experience with this arrangement? I've seen a system where the LED is always on, and it didn't seem to affect the operation, but I would prefer to have the light switched. West Marine has such a switch for little cost (Model # 11114998 , under $4).
