What to buy??

Postby mashenden » Fri Jan 03, 2014 8:17 am

I am eager to set up a cold plate system in my boat. Given a no response to a previous post I thought I'd try a different approach. I'm not a HVAC/R expert but am very technically inclined - a quick learner if I am able to get answers to questions.

Any suggestions on what I would need to create a cold plate system for a 6 cu ft icebox (well insulated) would be greatly appreciated.

Here is what I have available:

Norcold SCQT 4407 compressor/expansion coil unit (SAWAFUJI SK511M compressor - 5736 BTU) and control module - never been put in service.

Tundra 12vDC/120vAC 4.2 cu ft fridge/freezer (Danfoss BD-35 compressor - 9408 BTU) - fully operational but does not fit my boat as a unit.

Cold plate - SS 21" x 12.5" x 4.5" with 2 loops, of which one has a 1/4" fitting at one end of a loop and 3/8" at the other (presumably latter would be the suction side). Was a part of a two zone system using 12v Danfoss and engine driven Crosby compressors.

Not relevant to a cold plate system but I also have a ColdMachine VD-07 O-Evaporator Model 2007581 that is in new condition as well as the evaporator from the previously mentioned Norcold system that is missing the copper lines and cap tube.

Is my best bet to buy a TN2 TX valve (RPart # VALVES:095-0000) and the OX orifice (VALVES:095-0001) to match it with the cold plate and one of my compressors? I'd prefer to give the Norcold compressor a try rather than break down the operational Tundra/Danfoss system, but only if it stands a fighting chance.

Any input from the experts would be greatly appreciated.
